FAO's Member Countries established world Food Day (WFD) at the Organization'sOrganization's 20th General Conference in November 1945. The Hungarian Delegation, led by the previous Hungarian Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dr. Pál Romány, has played an active function at the 20th Session of the FAO Conference and recommended the concept of celebrating the WFD worldwide. It has since been celebrated every year in more than 150 countries, raising awareness of the problems behind poverty and hunger.

4. Mountain glaciers are melting in the Andes, the Rockies, the Alps and beyond. These crucial water reserves, which supplement farm irrigation, are merely vaporizing away.
